Spain / Italy – At the 2022 FIAA event in Madrid, Spain, Iveco Group of Turin, Italy, through its brand Iveco Bus, debuted the new Crossway Low Entry Hybrid, available in XTL (X-To-Liquid) renewable fuel and natural gas versions, as Class I for city use and Class II for suburban, with deliveries expected in early 2023. Crowned ‘Sustainable Bus of the Year 2023,’ the Crossway LE Hybrid CNG, production will take place at the Iveco plant in Vysoké Myto, Czech Republic. The display model in Madrid, was a 12-meter-long version with 43 Lineo seats and two folding seats for a total capacity of up to 71 passengers.
This is a mild-hybrid vehicle, where the main drive is derived from a FPT Industrial Cursor 9 gas engine, which is transferred through a Voith DIWA NXT hybrid-electric automatic transmission from Voith GmbH & Co KGaA. The hybrid electric drivetrain combination consists of a high-energy LTO battery (48 V) mounted on the roof coupled to the Voith DIWA NXT gearbox and Cursor 9 engine. The DIWA NXT gearbox incorporates a 35-kW peak electrical recovery motor, which acts as a starter (by supporting) the Cursor 9 engine during the starting phases and as a generator recovering kinetic energy accumulated during the deceleration and braking phases. Combining renewable fuels with this mild-hybrid transmission, enables operators to reduce CO2 emissions, whilst reducing operating costs by delivering fuel savings.
