Daimler Buses presents eCitaro with new NMC batteries

Mercedes-Benz eCitaro

Germany / Spain – At IAA Transportation 2022 in Hanover between 20-25 September and later at FIAA in Madrid between 18-21 October, EvoBus GmbH (“Daimler Buses”) of Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg showcased its ‘eCitaro’ range of electric buses fitted with a new kind of NMC battery which provide 50% greater energy density.

The new-generation NMC (nickel, manganese, cobalt) lithium battery packs, which EvoBus produced in partnership with Akasol, contain cylindrical cells which are more compact than those used in previous Mercedes-Benz electric buses. 600 cells fit into each module, of which there are nine in a single pack. This gives a capacity of 98 kWh per pack.
