JEMA Energy to provide London’s first pantograph bus fast-charging system

The Jema ECI 600 charger & inverted pantograph

UK / Spain – Power conversion systems producer, JEMA Energy SA (part of the Irizar Group) of Lasarte-Oria, Spain, has been contracted by London bus operator, Go-Ahead, owned by Metrobus, to provide the electric charging for route number 358, a 16-mile bus route in the city of London.

JEMA announced it has installed two opportunity charging stations to charge some 20 buses using inverted pantographs at both ends of the route in Orpington and Crystal Palace. This is the first route in London to use this technology. JEMA supplied and installed two 500 kW charging stations (OppCharge with inverted pantograph), which top up the e-buses with electricity when they arrive at the end of the line.
