Gillig to supply 45 transit agencies with electric buses

USA - Heavy-duty transit bus manufacturer, GILLIG LLC, based in Livermore, California, has announced that some 45 transit agencies have decided to utilise FTA grants to buy its low and zero-emission buses. USD 1.6 billion in funding has been made available by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the Low- and No-Emission (Low-No) Vehicle programmes developed in 2016 to support upgrading mass transit fleets to more efficient, less polluting vehicles.

Gillig offer CNG, Hybrid-Electric, Diesel, and Battery Electric options, with the company announcing that the majority of the purchases were for the low-platform Gen 3 Battery Electric Bus which will be offered in two lengths (35 and 40 ft), featuring a Cummins EV power train and an Akasol AKASystem 9 AKM 150 CYC battery system for the following available capacity configurations: 490 kWh, 588 kWh and 686 kWh.
