USA / SwedenMcNeilus Truck and Manufacturing Inc, a subsidiary of Oshkosh based in Dodge Center, Minnesota, USA, has announced a partnership with steel-maker SSAB AB of Stockholm, Sweden to build heavy-duty trucks made with fossil-free steel.

McNeilus and SSAB plan first of all to build prototype waste collection vehicles with steel made from direct-reduced iron, which can be done using renewable hydrogen – therefore producing no greenhouse gas emissions. SSAB sources its iron ore from LKAB and its energy from Vattenfall; together, the three companies aim to replace coking coal with fossil-free electricity and hydrogen in iron ore-based steelmaking.
