MCI unveils next-generation coach for inmate transportation

The D4020 ISTV by MCI

USA Motor Coach Industries (MCI), a subsidiary of the NFI Group based in Des Plaines, Illinois, has unveiled a new coach model designed for the transportation of prisoners, featuring additions that MCI claims provide greater security.

The ‘D4020 ISTV’ (Inmate Security Transportation Vehicle) is the successor to the ‘D4000 ISTV’, launched back in 2001. It is based on the newest generation platform for the D series of commuter coaches. Inside the coach, new centre-mounted ceiling lights provide additional visibility when cell partitions are used. The emergency lighting uses more efficient and higher output LEDs that match modern law enforcement lighting. On the exterior, overhead lighting around the coach perimeter provides extra visibility when loading and unloading prisoners. Optional customisations include bullet-resistant materials and a 360-degree bird’s-eye camera system for monitoring activity around the coach.
