Australia / Japan – Leading up to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA between 5-8 January, Tier IV Inc of Nagoya, Japan announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Baraja Pty Ltd of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, agreeing to jointly validate, develop and optimise autonomous driving technologies.

Tier IV was founded in 2015 with the intention of creating an open-source platform for autonomous driving software development. The result, ‘Autoware’, is freely accessible to anyone who wants to build a system capable of autonomously driving a vehicle. Tier IV’s ‘Pilot.Auto’ product is based on the Autoware platform. Following the deal agreed with Baraja, Tier IV will integrate Pilot.Auto with the Australian firm’s LiDAR systems which allow autonomous vehicles to perceive objects in their vicinity.
