Lion Electric to enter battery market with first product offering

Lion Electric's battery production facility in Mirabel, Quebec

CanadaThe Lion Electric Co, based in Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, has announced it is to enter the battery manufacturing market with its first in-house produced lithium-ion battery pack at its Mirabel facility in Quebec. Final certification of the product set is to take place in Q1 2023, ahead of series production shortly thereafter. With production capacity set to scale up over the course of the year, the manufacturing facility is expected to produce around five gigawatt-hours of batteries a year.

The first battery sets produced will power the Lion5 truck and the LionAmbulance, with the strategy of vertical integration giving the company a key market advantage in terms of more control of supply, technology advancement and vehicle integration when producing their medium and heavy-duty electric commercial vehicles.
