USA – At the World of Concrete in Las Vegas, Nevada, held between 17-19 January, Mack Trucks Inc of Greensboro, North Carolina showcased a revamped ‘Granite’ truck model with improved LED lighting, increasing visibility by up to 50%.
The Mack Granite is a series of Class 8 trucks designed for construction applications which was first launched in 2001. The model shown at World of Concrete features self-heating LED headlights which improve forward visibility by up to 29% and peripheral visibility by up to 50%. The integrated heating elements automatically sense when it is cold and switch on to keep ice and snow from building up. In addition, an anti-fog coating prevents condensation from forming on the lights. Integrated amber daytime running lights also double as indicators, which Mack Trucks claims make the truck more visible to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. The lenses are made of polycarbonate and are protected by an additional hard coating for extra durability. According to Mack Trucks, the headlight assemblies are easily replaceable and are also backwards compatible with earlier truck models for those Granite owners who wish to upgrade their lights.
