Aurora partners with Uber Freight to test autonomous trucking fleet

Aurora Driver Beta 5.0 software

USA – Late last year, it was announced that start-up software company, Aurora Innovations Inc of Mountain View, California, United States, had partnered with logistics company Uber Freight, based in San Francisco, to implement an autonomous trucking fleet test in Texas, between Fort Worth and El Paso, which is currently underway.

The 600-mile lane across Texas is supporting Uber Freight customers in their delivery needs. The project is employing PACCAR’s Peterbilt 579M trucks utilising Aurora’s latest version of its integrated hardware and autonomy software system, the Aurora Driver Beta 5.0, which is the cornerstone of the company’s autonomous trucking service, Aurora Horizon. The test makes use of human drivers in the vehicles who handle the first and final leg of customer deliveries across Texas.
