GM to invest almost USD 1 bn into ICE manufacturing facilities across the U.S.

USA – Earlier this month, Detroit-based vehicle manufacturing giant, General Motors Company (GM), announced a USD913 million investment into four of its U.S. facilities producing internal combustion engines and electric vehicle components. It said the majority of the funding (USD 854 million) would go into its Michigan, New York and Ohio plants in order to boost the production of its sixth-generation small-block V-8 engines along with the related block, crank and head machining. The rest of the capital (USD 64 million) is to be absorbed by its Rochester, New York and Defiance, Ohio facilities responsible for castings and components that support its electric vehicle production. Work has begun at these sites. Interestingly GM has pledged to end the production of new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035!

Gerald Johnson, executive Vice President of manufacturing at GM said the new investments would provide both job security as well as strengthen GM’s truck and SUV business. Johnson continued:
