São Paulo City signs partnership with Enel X Brasil to finance electric buses

Brazil - The city of São Paulo has announced a partnership with energy giant, Enel X Brasil SA (a subsidiary of the Italian energy supplier group, ENEL Group) of Ceara, Brazil to provide financing for the purchase of up to 2,600 electric buses by the concessionary companies that operate the municipal bus routes managed by SPTrans (São Paulo Transporte).

Ricardo Nunes, the Mayor of São Paulo says the objective of this agreement is to provide the right conditions to enable the city’s goal of acquiring and operating 2,600 new electric buses by the end of 2024. The target goal for the city is that 20% of the fleet will be made up of electric buses by the end of 2024. This part of the City’s actions to comply with the Climate Change Law, which provides for the reduction of fossil carbon dioxide emissions by 50% by 2028 and the eradication of fossil fuel derived pollutants by 2038.
