Mercedes-Benz releases further information for next-gen eSprinter, its “most versatile” eVan yet

The next-generation eSprinter by Mercedes-Benz

GermanyMercedes-Benz Group AG, an automotive corporation based in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, has released more details regarding its upcoming next-generation ‘eSprinter’ battery-electric van, which it claims will have a range between 400 and 500 kilometres.

The powertrain of the new eSprinter consists of a tripartite modular design. The front module incorporates all of the high-voltage components other than the batteries. The second module, in the centre of the chassis, incorporates the battery packs (up to 113 kWh). The batteries are situated in the underbody between the front and rear axles, saving space and providing a low centre of gravity for the whole vehicle. The rear module contains the electric axle, which drives the vehicle. The axle motor, which Mercedes is employing for the first time in the eSprinter, will come with peak power options of 100 or 150 kW and torque up to 400 Nm. This powertrain will be uniform across every variant of the next-generation eSprinter. Its design will allow for new cab-chassis configurations that were not available before, with Mercedes claiming that the new eSprinter will be its “most versatile” electric van of all time.
