Sweden / MexicoAB SKF, a bearing and seal manufacturer based in Gothenburg, Sweden, has announced it will be building a new manufacturing facility in Monterrey, in the state of Nuevo León in Mexico, where components for the North American market will be produced.

The factory, which will cost an estimated SEK700m to build, will be located on a greenfield site in Monterrey, which is located near the border with the USA. Among other components for automotive and industrial applications, the new facility will produce tapered roller bearings for commercial vehicle applications. SKF hopes to take advantage of what it characterises as a “fast-growing and strategically important” market in North America for electric drivetrains and commercial vehicles. Locating a new facility in Mexico will reduce SKF’s reliance on imports from other continents in serving its North American customers.
