Meritor begins testing 17Xe ePowertrain at Millbrook
By Bradley Osborne - 27th February 2023
USA / UK – Meritor Inc, a subsidiary of Cummins Inc based in Troy, Michigan, USA, has started tests of its upcoming ‘17Xe ePowertrain’, an e-axle drive system for heavy trucks and buses in 6x2 and 4x2 configurations, at Millbrook Proving Ground in the UK.
The 17Xe ePowertrain is the result of a collaborative effort between Meritor and assorted partners. Danfoss Editron, the electric power solutions division of Danfoss A/S of Nordborg, Denmark, developed the 430-kW (continuous) motor which drives the 17Xe. It is integrated into a patented housing, with thermal management capabilities which Meritor claims are cutting edge. As a result of the research and development work done by the two companies, the 17Xe needs only one motor and not the standard two which are required in other powertrains currently on the market. John Bennett, General Manager – ePowertrain at Cummins, commented:
