India: Bus and coach sales in strong recovery during April to December after pandemic

India –  Sales of buses and coaches (7.5t & above) in the first nine months of fiscal year 2022-23 (April to December) rallied gaining 267.7% to register 23,689 units compared with just 6,442 units in the three-quarter year period of FY2021-22. Total bus production, almost trebled, up by 191.2% from 9,648 units in Q1-Q3 of 2021-22 to 28,091 units in the same period in 2022-23. Bus and coach exports in the first nine months of FY 2022-23 increased by 94.7% to 7,406 units from 3,804 units.

Turning to the individual segments, domestic sales of the largest segment, medium-duty buses (ICV: 7.5 tonnes - 12 tonnes), increased by 321% from 3,645 units in April to December of 2021-22 to 14,589 units in the same period this fiscal year. Production increased by 187.6% from 5,878 units to 16,905 units and exports increased by 14.7% from 1,949 to 2,236 units.
