USA / CanadaTorc Robotics Inc, a subsidiary of Daimler Truck based in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA, announced it has signed an agreement to acquire Algolux Inc of Montreal, Quebec, Canada for an undisclosed sum.

Algolux specialises in perception software for advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous vehicles. Its portfolio consists of two products: the first is ‘Eos’, which connects with stereo cameras to provide reliable depth perception; the other is ‘Atlas’, a program which automatically improves image quality for computer vision. Both of these tools use machine learning to help self-driving vehicles and ADAS to “see” better, negating the need for other types of sensor such as lidar.
