Denso ups the energy efficiency in batteries with SiC inverters

Denso SiC Inverter

Japan - Components giant, Denso Corporation* of Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation of Toyota, Japan, has developed its first inverter using silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors incorporated in e-Axles, which significantly reduce power loss in electric vehicles (EVs).

A driving test carried out with a Battery-Electric Vehicle (BEV) using SiC inverters showed the efficiency gain that can be expected. The test showed that the power loss was reduced by more than half compared to a vehicle with inverters using conventional silicon technology. This efficiency gain is reflected in an increased range of the vehicle.
