Bogotá invests in gas buses with recent delivery of 263 new Scania F280 CNG units

Colombia / Brazil - Two of Colombia's largest operators, Organización SUMA S.A.S. and Consorcio Express S.A.S., confirmed recent receipt of no fewer than 263 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered Scania F280 buses for operation in the capital city of Bogotá.

All Scania F280 4x2 9-metre buses are equipped with Scania’s front mounted Euro VI 284hp 9.3-litre five-cylinder CNG engine and matched with the Allison Torqmatic T375R fully automatic transmission. These are now being used in Bogotá's TransMilenio Integrated Public Transport System (SITP) in Colombia. Both operators point out that Allison transmissions work very well with gas engines and that they can compensate for the city's high altitude, which is 2,600 metres above sea level.
