Sales of heavy commercial vehicles in the Colombian market were negative for the third month in a row this year, according to data from Andemos (National Association for Sustainable Mobility).

The TransMilenio system in the city of Bogotá, Colombia, claims to have an electric bus fleet of over 1,600 vehicles, the second largest in South America behind Santiago in Chile.

The CV market in Colombia ended 2023 with the sale of 32,511 vehicles, down 23.5% on the 42,488 units sold in 2022.

Called Ruta Elétrica Andina the project proposes construction of battery charging stations along the Andean highway at intervals of every 200 km – initially the project is to run from Cartagena in northern Colombia to Ipiales, on the border with Ecuador.

According to data from Bogotá-based Andemos (National Association for Sustainable Mobility) sales in year to September 30, 2023, fell by 35.3% to 19,444 heavy commercial vehicles compared with 30,060 units sold in the same period of 2022.

The Colombian market for commercial vehicles closed the first half of 2023 with a significant decrease of 17.1% compared with the period of January to June in 2022, according to data released by the Bogotá-based Asociación Nacional de Movilidad Sostenible – ANDEMOS.

In the first quarter of this year, the Colombian CV market recorded sales of 9,421 units, corresponding to an increase of 9.7% (931 units) above the 8,590 vehicles sold in the same period of 2022.

ANDEMOS reports 41,634 trucks and buses were sold in 2022 compared with 35,567 units in 2021, a rise of 6,067 units or 14.57%.

The clients include Opex SAS, a Colombian systems integrator of batteries and hydrogen fuel cells and Avia Ingeniería y Diseño S.L, a Spanish electric powertrain manufacturer.
