Cummins showcases hydrogen engine truck at ACT Expo

Peterbilt Model 579 with Cummins X15H engine

USA – At the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Anaheim, California, held between 1-4 May 2023, Cummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana showcased a range of EV products at its ‘Accelera’ stand alongside a concept truck with a hydrogen combustion engine.

The truck – a Peterbilt Model 579 – featured a Cummins ‘X15H’ engine, which was installed at the Cummins Machine Integration Center in Columbus. The engine provides up to 500 horsepower (372 kW) and up to 1,900 lb-ft torque. An 80-kg hydrogen storage system contains the fuel at 700 bar pressure, providing a range of over 500 miles. Cummins claims the truck offers equivalent performance to that of a truck with a “similar displacement diesel engine”, while also being “significantly quieter”.
