Lion Electric launches Class 5 battery electric truck at ACT Expo

The Lion5 by Lion Electric

USA – At the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Anaheim, California, held between 1-4 May 2023, Lion Electric Company of Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, Canada launched a new Class 5 battery electric truck, complementing the company’s existing range of Class 6 and 8 electric trucks.

The ‘Lion5’ cab-chassis is categorised by Lion Electric as a Class 5 vehicle, but in fact it is being offered in configurations up to 26,000 lbs gross vehicle weight rating (i.e., the upper limit of Class 6). The gross combined weight rating which Lion Electric has provided is 30,000 lbs. The maximum payload offered on the Lion5 is 12,500 lbs. Lion Electric claims that the vehicle’s low centre of gravity and weight distribution – along with ADAS features such as electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist, and a limited slip differential – give the Lion5 superior handling and performance.
