Scania updates predictive cruise control in new trucks

SwedenScania AB, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Södertälje, Sweden, has announced that, from June, all new trucks (with a few exceptions) installed with G25 and G33 gearboxes will come with updated predictive cruise control software, providing potential fuel savings of up to 2%.

With Scania’s latest ‘Cruise Control with Active Prediction’ (CCAP) software, drivers will reportedly experience better flow and driveability, performance modes with wider adjustment spans, and more dynamic adaptation to the actual road and traffic conditions than before. What this means is that new Scania trucks will be better at adjusting their performance when traversing up and down hilly roads, using the optimal gear without frequent gearshifts and taking greater advantage of rolling. With the newest CCAP, Scania trucks will reportedly be able to “eco roll” (i.e., disengaging the gear while travelling downhill) for longer stretches. On hilly roads, Scania claims its predictive cruise control will save drivers up to 2% in fuel while maintaining the same average speed.
