Scania introduces G-range gearboxes for heavy-duty applications

Innards of a new Scania G-CH gearbox

Sweden – In May, Scania AB, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Södertälje, Sweden, introduced two new automated manual transmissions which are designed for mining, heavy-haulage, and offroad applications.

The two new models – the ‘G25CH’ and the ‘G33CH’ – are part of the G-range of automated gearboxes which Scania launched in 2020. They are largely identical to their counterparts, the ‘G25CM’ and ‘G33CM’, offering 2,500 Nm and 3,300 Nm of torque respectively. The primary difference is a “sturdier” planetary gear, which Scania claims makes the G-CH gearboxes better suited to the heaviest applications (the “H” in the name stands for “heavy”). The weight savings of the new gearboxes are greater than those achieved by the G-CM range: the G25CH saves 95 kg and the G33CH 80 kg compared to the previous generation of gearboxes (the GRS0935).
