Annual rigid truck sales in India enjoys steady growth in 2022-23

India - Sales of medium and heavy rigid trucks (7.5t gvw and above) in FY 2022-23 across India increased by 30.6% to 262,521 units from 201,038 units in the financial year 2021-2022. Export sales of medium and heavy rigid trucks declined by 55.7% from 24,895 units in the year 2021-22 to 11,032 units in the fiscal year 2022-23. The total number of medium and heavy-duty rigid trucks built during the last fiscal year totalled 277,221 units compared with 228,170 units in 2021-22, an increase of 21.5%.

Sales of medium-duty rigid trucks (7.5t to 12 tons) in India edged up by just 1.4% to 35,298 units from 34,822 vehicles in FY2021-22. Export sales suffered by falling 47.5% in FY 2022-23 to 3,848 units from 7,324 units in FY 2021-22, while production resembled the previous year with a gain of just 0.8%. Tata Motors and Volvo-Eicher dominate this segment with the latter of the two enjoying positive growth in the recent fiscal year.
