Toyota developing autonomous light truck with Komatsu's AHS technology

Japan - Vehicle manufacturers, Toyota Motor Corporation and Komatsu Ltd have announced plans to develop jointly an Autonomous Light Vehicle (ALV) that runs on Komatsu's Autonomous Haulage System (AHS), with the aim of promoting further safety and productivity improvements in mines.

Toyota, headquartered in Aichi Prefecture, and Tokyo-based Komatsu aim to use Komatsu’s AHS system and develop new technologies to develop ALV service trucks used to transfer personnel and spare parts within mining sites. The two companies are currently testing a concept ALV based on Toyota’s Hilux pickup truck at their proving grounds and plan to have a proof of concept at a customer site as early as January 2024.
