Luminus by Volvo Buses

Sweden / MexicoVolvo Bus Corporation of Gothenburg, Sweden has launched a new range of battery electric buses based on its ‘BZL Electric’ chassis exclusively for the Mexican market.

The range, called ‘Luminus’, is available in lengths varying between 9.7 and 13 metres. Customers can request either one or two electric motors, each providing a power output of 200 kW, connected to a 2-speed automated manual transmission. ZF rear portal axles (‘AV 133’) provide a maximum wheel torque of 31,000 Nm. Customers can also request battery configurations offering capacities between 280 and 470 kWh. These lithium-ion batteries use NCA (nickel cobalt aluminium) oxide chemistry. Volvo Buses’ service contract offers to take over the batteries from the customer at the end of their useful life for second-life applications.
