Foton to build second plant in Mexico

Cabs arrive from China at Foton's first assembly plant in Mexico

China / Mexico / USA/ Canada - Truck maker, Beiqi Foton Motor Company (Foton), based in Beijing, plans to build a second plant in Mexico to produce internal combustion engines (ICE) and battery-powered commercial vehicles - with a view to also exporting them to the USA and Canada through the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Foton completed its first Mexican vehicle assembly plant in 2019, in the state of Jalisco, which has a production capacity of 40 ICE trucks per day from CKD kits imported from China. The company already sells battery-powered trucks in Mexico, but these are still imported as built-up units from China.
