RAI Association leads electric trailer axle project in the Netherlands

Project yDrive semi-trailer

NetherlandsRAI Vereniging, the Netherlands’ road transport trade association, is leading a project to develop an axle system which will generate zero-emission electric power for semi-trailers.

‘Project yDrive’ enlists the help of five different companies*, one of which, startup firm Econogy BV of Dronten, is leading the design and development of the trailer axle system itself. The electrically-driven axle will recover energy from braking and store it in a battery pack. This stored-up energy can then be reused to support the vehicle, either by reducing fuel consumption in a conventional truck or by extending the range of an electric truck.
