USAVolvo Group North America Inc of Greensboro, North Carolina is taking part in a research project conducted by the University of Minnesota which will investigate the impact of hot and cold weather on an electric truck’s battery life.

Two Volvo ‘VNR Electric’ trucks will operate in two different settings. In the wintertime, the trucks will serve in real operations with Murphy Logistics Solutions in Minnesota, and in summer they will serve with HEB Grocery Company in Texas, offering two opposing extremes in temperature. The trucks will be installed with six battery packs which provide a range of up to 275 miles. They will be driven on freight routes exceeding 250 miles in a single day, taking the state of charge down from 100% to around 10% to take full advantage of the batteries’ usable energy.
