Schmitz secures type approval for fully-electric reefer with regen axle

The S.KOe Cool by Schmitz Cargobull

GermanySchmitz Cargobull AG of Horstmar, North Rhine-Westphalia has announced that it received whole vehicle type approval for the European Union for its ‘S.KOe Cool’ refrigerated semi-trailer, including an electric axle for recuperating energy from braking.

Approval was granted by the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt or German Federal Motor Transport Authority, following type tests carried out by TÜV Rheinland. The three-axle refrigerated trailer is powered entirely by electricity; the energy recovered by the e-axle while braking provides auxiliary power for recharging the refrigerator battery. Schmitz launched pilot testing of the S.KOe Cool back in 2021 with STI Freight Management
