Lion Electric opens new manufacturing plant in Illinois

USA / Canada – Canadian electric vehicle manufacturer, Lion Electric Co, based in Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, has opened a new 84,000-square-metre plant in Joliet in the US state of Illinois. By the end of 2023, the factory expects to be producing up to 2,500 electric school buses a year whilst employing 1,400 new staff members.

The manufacturer is also cooperating with Argonne National Laboratory and Joliet Junior College on research programmes and workforce training and development. Over the next several months, the factory will gradually come online in stages.
