ADL taking part in Dubai autonomous bus challenge

Alexander Dennis Enviro200AV at Dubai World Challenge

Dubai / UK – This month UK bus manufacturer, Alexander Dennis Ltd (ADL) based in Larbert, Scotland, announced that testing of its autonomous Enviro200AV autonomous single-deck bus has concluded on-track testing at the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport. This Challenge has been organised by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai and the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport, involving six autonomous bus builders testing their respective autonomous driving capabilities in the hope of a lucrative government tender in the future. The ‘winner’ of this challenge will be announced in September this year.

In conjunction with its technology partner Fusion Processing Ltd, the vehicle test in Dubai has involved replicating real-life traffic conditions, including 21 different case scenarios ranging from by-passing obstacles autonomously to safe operation in severe weather conditions like sandstorms. Each shortlisted company is to receive a mobilisation grant from RTA.
