USA – American school bus manufacturer, Blue Bird Corp, based in Macon, Georgia, has expanded its production capacity to 5,000 electric school buses a year after it recently opened the ‘Electric Vehicle Build-up Centre’ at the company’s primary U.S. production facility in Fort Valley, Georgia. The company renovated a 3,716 square-metre area of the factory which features a dedicated assembly line for electric school buses. The company says it anticipates growing demand for electric school buses as districts replace their old-generation ICE vehicles with new zero-emission alternatives. This is further driven by the US government’s five-billion-dollar funding package in the form of the American Clean School Bus Program.
The company will assemble the recently released Vision and All-American electric school buses at the EV Build-up Centre. Furthermore, the facility will feature charging infrastructure in order to fully charge the vehicles before delivery to customers.
