Mahle presents new battery cooling plate with bionic design

Battery cooling plate inspired by coral structures

Germany – Components manufacturer Mahle GmbH of Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg has announced it will present a new battery cooling concept at the IAA Mobility show in September for passenger cars, though its potential applications may extend to commercial vehicle batteries.

Mahle’s engineers have come up with a design for a battery cooling plate which has the potential to significantly boost battery performance, safety, and service life. The designers took a bionic approach – that is to say, they applied biological structures to electronics design – to come up with a concept which takes inspiration from the intricate forms built by corals.
