ONE developing LFP battery with performance nearly matched to NMC

Aries II battery pack by ONE

USAOur Next Energy Inc (ONE) of Novi, Michigan has announced it is developing a new generation of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs that will closely match the range and mass of the NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) battery commonly used in electric vehicles.

Dubbed ‘Aries II’, the battery pack currently in development is the successor to the company’s ‘Aries’ LFP batteries (found, for instance, in vehicles built by Motiv Power Systems). With the Aries II, ONE has reportedly achieved energy densities of 263 Wh/L and 162 Wh/kg, representing respective improvements of 34% and 23% over the leading LFP benchmark. ONE claims that the Aries II has closed the gap in range and mass to within 6% when compared to the leading NMC benchmark.
