Pent up demand boosts sales of minibuses and light-duty buses up to 7.5 tons

India - Sales of light-duty buses and coaches (7.5t & below) rose by 24.6% to register 14,438 units in the first fiscal quarter (April to June) of 2023, up from 11,590 units in Q1 of FY2022. Production increased strongly by 58.2% from 11,494 units to 18,188 units, encouraged too by positive exports of 390 units, up by 42.3% from 274 units in the same period a year ago.

In the minibus segment with more than 13 seats (GVW ≤ 5 tons no. of seats including the driver exceeding 13), domestic sales grew by 54.4% to register 3,983 units in Q1/FY2023-24, up from 2,579 units in Q1/FY2022-23. Production increased by 30.5% to over 4,000 units, which was boosted by export sales of 84 units compared with just four units in Q1/2022/23.
