Schaeffler and VDL Groep present autonomous shuttle prototype at IAA Mobility

VDL-Schaeffler autonomous shuttle

Germany – At IAA Mobility in Munich between 5 and 10 September, Schaeffler AG of Herzogenaurach, Bavaria showcased a prototype autonomous shuttle for passenger transport, developed in partnership with the VDL Groep of Eindhoven, Netherlands and Mobileye Global Inc of Jerusalem, Israel.

The vehicle presented at the show was a first demonstrator, but Schaeffler and VDL have plans to produce more, with the aim of commencing customer pilots in Germany in 2025. The partners will combine Schaeffler’s electric powertrain and steer-by-wire expertise with VDL’s vehicle production capabilities. The autonomous driving technology, supplied by Mobileye, will have Level 4 autonomy (i.e., driverless on certain routes).
