Turkey / Canada – Ballard Power Systems Inc, a manufacturer of fuel cell systems based in Burnaby, British Columbia, has signed a letter of intent with Ford Otomotiv Sanayi AŞ (“Ford Otosan”), an automotive manufacturer jointly owned by America’s Ford Motor Company and Koç Holding based in Gölcük, Turkey, to supply fuel cell systems to develop a FCEV prototype truck. The deal initially will see Ballard supply two FCmove XD 120 kW fuel cell engines planned for Q4 2023 delivery. The fuel cell engines are to be integrated into Ford F-Max 44-tonne long-haul tractors as part of developing the Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) F-MAX prototype. Ford said they plan to complete this project by 2025 and start producing fuel-cell F-MAX vehicles in Turkey by Q4 2025. Ballard is planning to be the preferred supplier when series production begins.
