MAN delivers first electric bus made entirely in South Africa

Lion's Explorer E by MAN

Germany / South AfricaMAN Truck & Bus SE, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, has announced its first delivery of a battery electric bus in Africa based on its ‘Lion’s Chassis E’ for the global market.

The 12-metre bus, dubbed ‘Lion’s Explorer E’, was supplied to Golden Arrow Bus Services for pilot testing in Cape Town, South Africa. Although MAN builds electric chassis for export to bodybuilders in overseas markets at the Starachowice plant in Poland, in this case the chassis was assembled at the company’s facility in Pinetown, South Africa. The body was built at its Olifantsfontein site to the customer’s specification – a high-floor bus with two axles.
