Northvolt picks site for North American cell gigafactory in Quebec

Sweden / CanadaNorthvolt AB of Stockholm, Sweden announced in September that it has chosen a site outside of Montreal in Quebec province, Canada to build a new gigafactory for battery cell production, serving the North American electric vehicle market. 

Named ‘Northvolt Six’, the gigafactory will have a production capacity of 60 GWh per year when it is completely finished. The first phase of construction will begin at the end of this year, with a target of a 30-GWh annual capacity when completed in 2026. Adjacent facilities will produce cathode active materials partly from used batteries recycled onsite.
