Telma presents frictionless braking at Busworld 2023

Belgium – At Busworld 2023, held between 7-12 October at the Brussels Expo, Telma SAS of Saint-Ouen l’Aumône, France presented its latest braking system concept which does not require friction to work.

Telma’s retarders for commercial vehicles do not use drag force from brake pads to slow the vehicle down; instead, they are “induction” or “eddy current” brakes which use electromagnetism to dissipate the kinetic energy as heat, thus slowing the vehicle down without any friction. By replacing and/or augmenting the conventional vehicle brakes with Telma’s retarders, the customer can reduce the vehicle’s emission of brake pad fibres.
