USA - Lightning eMotors of Loveland, Colorado, was at APTA Expo 2023 in Orlando, Florida, last month to display its wares and to announce several recent developments.

The company today offers services and products under multiple Lightning brands, according to the e-mobility service it is offering. Its ‘Lightning Repower’ activities - specifically for vehicles that have already done on-road duty in petrol or diesel form and are being converted to electric – is no longer a focussed business activity; two years ago it terminated its repowered Transit van agreement with Ford. According to Dan Bennett, marketing manager at Lightning eMotors, in conversation with Truck & Bus Builder at APTA: “The main activity - which is also petrol-to-electric conversion - is for NEW vehicles, and this is where almost all our business is focussed. The Transit vans fall into this category.” The company, he said, was in the process of replacing this product (electrified new Transits) with the purpose-built Lightning eChassis vehicle, based on a chassis from an unnamed Class 3 van supplier.
