New Mullen battery facility in Fullerton, California

USAMullen Automotive Inc of Brea, California has opened a new battery testing and small-scale production facility in Fullerton, California, where it will develop solid-state batteries for its line of Class 1 commercial electric vehicles.

Beginning this month, Mullen will begin calibration of its management system for solid-state batteries for integration with its Class 1 cargo van. Test drives of Class 1 vehicles installed with solid-state battery packs will begin in the first quarter of 2024. The company hopes to replace its current lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with solid-state polymer ones, boosting the energy capacity of each pack from 42 kWh to 72 kWh and increasing the vehicle range by 73%, from 110 miles to over 190 miles.
