Ashok Leyland to set up greenfield bus plant in Uttar Pradesh state

India - Ashok Leyland Ltd of Chennai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Uttar Pradesh, to set up its integrated commercial vehicle bus plant focused on green mobility in Uttar Pradesh. Once operational, it will be the first plant for the company in the state of Uttar Pradesh and the seventh plant in the country.

Under the MoU, Ashok Leyland is to focus predominantly on the production of electric buses, with the flexibility of also assembling buses fuelled by other powertrains including alternative emerging fuels such as CNG, LNG and FCEV.  Upon commencement of operations, the manufacturing facility will initially have the capacity to produce 2,500 buses per year. The company intends to gradually expand this capacity to accommodate up to 5,000 vehicles per year over the next decade.
