Indian bus and coach sales increase 43% in first half of FY 2023-24

India – Domestic sales of medium and large buses and coaches (7.5t gvw and above) increased by 43.8% in first half (April to September, 1H) of the financial year 2023-24 to register 22,250 units, up from 15,474 units in first half of FY 2022-23. Total bus production increased by 40% in the half year of FY 2023-24 to 23,800 from 16,996 previously. Total exports increased by 12.3% in first half of FY 2023-24 to 4,907 units from 4,371 units in first half of FY 2022-23.

Turning to the individual segments, sales of medium-duty buses (ICV: 7.5 tonnes – 12 tonnes) increased by 21.2% from 10,902 units in the first half of FY 2022-23 to 13,217 units in first half of FY 2023-24. Production of ICV buses increased by 32.8% to 14,283 units in the first half of FY 2023-24 from 10,757 units, whilst export sales improved by 26.7%.
