Ashok Leyland wins record order of 1,666 buses from Tamil Nadu state

India - Ashok Leyland Ltd of Chennai has announced that it has won a tender totalling 1,666 buses from Tamil Nadu State Transport Undertakings (TN STU). All are diesel powered units compliant to Bharat Stage VI emissions norms.

At 12 metres long and 16t GVW the buses are powered with Ashok Leyland’s iGen6 H-Series, 6-cylinder BS VI diesel engine which is matched with a manual 6-speed synchromesh cable shift gearbox with overdrive (ZF 6S 850). The axles, spaced at six metres are fitted with rubber-ended leaf springs and air suspension front and rear.
