Mahle Powertrain opens battery development centre in Germany

Mahle Powertrain battery development centre in Stuttgart

UK / Germany – In November, Mahle Powertrain Ltd, the engineering services subsidiary of Mahle GmbH based in Northampton, UK, opened another battery development centre in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, intended to serve clients based on the continent.

The new facility, spanning 1,300 square metres, can accommodate every stage of battery development between prototyping and small-scale production, according to Mahle Powertrain. The prototype workshop includes a dual-robot laser welding station which is capable of handling active high-voltage battery modules. Moreover, test cells for battery packs up to 1200 V/2000 A/550 kW can produce climactic conditions ranging between -40 and 90 degrees Celsius and replicate simulated driving cycles in harsh conditions. Self-extinguishing workbenches and water drop tanks are there to maintain the “highest standards” of safety.
