Voith hydrogen tanks approved for road use by UNECE

Carbon4Tank by Voith Composites

GermanyVoith GmbH & Co KGaA of Heidenham an der Brenz, Baden-Württemberg has announced that its ‘Carbon4Tank’ hydrogen storage vessel, produced by its composites subsidiary, is now certified for road use by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe

In order to meet the UNECE R 134 regulation, the hydrogen tank had to meet certain requirements. According to Voith, these included testing for burst pressure, pressure cycle life, expected on-road performance, fire safety, and component isolation. Now that it is approved for road use, the Carbon4Tank is ready to be serially produced. Voith says that some “well-known” truck OEMs are already integrating the tanks into their trucks.
