USATorc Robotics Inc, a subsidiary of Daimler Truck North America based in Blacksburg, Virginia, has announced a data sharing partnership with the freight division of Uber Technologies Inc of San Francisco, California, allowing Torc to apply data taken from Uber Freight vehicles to its autonomous vehicle research and development.

Through their agreement, Torc will access data collected from Uber Freight’s transport network, representing more than USD18bn in active freight under management and more than 100,000 digitally-enable carriers. Torc will use the data from Uber Freight to inform decisions about its autonomous freight network design and expansion, such as: choosing which lanes are optimal for deployment; how to prioritise the rollout of lanes and various ODDs (operational design domains); how to balance supply and demand across supply chains with autonomous trucks; how to manage autonomous loads and transfer hubs; and so on.
